Closed call – position assigned

Enrolled fellow: Imad Faruque
Start date: 1 April 2014
Supervisor: Prof. Jeremy O’Brien, Dr Mark Thompson
Host Institution: University of Bristol – UOB
Duration:36 months

Description:
The ESR will be a member of the Centre for Quantum Photonics, based in the H.H. Wills Physics Laboratory and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. As part of the EU MC ITN PCIQUE the ESR will be working on reconfigurable integrated quantum photonics, developing a novel waveguide single-photon sources and detectors and integrating them into complex optical circuits, working closely with Prof. Jeremy O’Brien and Dr Mark Thompson as well as other members of CQP and the PICQUE Network. The position will include an industrial secondment and travel to other PICQUE partners will be required.

Objectives:
To develop photon sources, reconfigurable circuits and superconducting single photon detectors – all compatible with the silicon-on-insulator technology platform. We will endeavour to integrate as many of these functionalists onto a single chip, demonstrating circuit and detector integration, and ultimately source, circuit and detector integration.

Tasks and methodology:
– Develop integrated waveguide photon pair sources based in spontaneous four-wave-mixing
– Develop reconfigurable waveguide circuits compatible with the superconducting detector technology
– Develop waveguide-based superconducting detector for integration with silicon waveguide circuits
– Integration of all key components into a single quantum circuit
